Partially hydronated oil- It's everywhere!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Country Families : One Thread

I know I did not spell it correctly, but if you look at the packages, it is truly in almost eveyrthing! I spent some time yesterday just looking at all of the labels and I was truly amazed. I am more and more just cooking everything from scratch. so if you have heart or cholesterol troubles, make sure you read those labels!

Dear Melissa,

You are so right, partially hydrogenated oils, are so harmfull. They are called trans fats. When margarine first came into being, I was about 10 years old, then it had a yellow ball, and you quished it around in the crisco looking stuff till it turned yellow, Discusting, Then they came out with the cubes, from that time on, heart trouble started. You never heard of any one dieing of heart trouble, they all died of pnemonia. All of prepared foods in boxes, cakes, cookies, even peanut butter has trans fats. At our house we eat butter, I use butter in all cake recipes. and cookies, etc. I use olive oil everywhere else. Cook from scratch if you don"t want heart trouble.

You are so right, Melissa. As I've mentioned before, my kids are allergic to cottonseed oil-THAT STUFF IS EVERYWHERE! reading labels is a shock! I do almost all cooking from scratch. Weds. was a dreadful day, so in a hurry for dinner, I opened a jar of Ragu-blah! it tasted terrible! Alas, I am out of home-canned tomato suace-I'll have to put up more next year....
