Tell-Tale Heart obviously. William Wilson- more enigmatic, schizophrenia? The Black Cat- alcohol puts this obsessive paranoid over the edge. Many characters on the brink but either die or prevail over challenges. Unhealthy minds: Tha Assignation lover suicides, The Oblong Box obsessed lover, Usher- sick mind, body, house and family as a unity. For laughs(Dr. Tarr and Dr. Feather). In fact Poe rarely completely crosses over into having a completely insane character. He likes life on the edge, so to speak, and the inner war within the mind mirrors the story conflict.
