greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

hello everyone;

i just updated my website (some reorganization, added some photos) www.lifeinblue.com and would love to hear your feedback; special thanks to those who gave me feedback when i first put it up months ago. i always value honesty and constructive critique. if you have any questions, i will certainly answer, either here or by email.

FYI, most images were shot with my leicas (R6.2 w/ 90mm summicron; M4-P w/ 50mm Summicron DR or 35mm Summicron ASPH), but some with my Rolleiflex TLR (2.8f).

thank you-

There's some nice photographs at your site. However, pop-up windows are a no-no, it takes too long to load (and I'm on DSL), and it's too hard to figure out the navigation the first time. Flash on a web site makes me think of a book with lead covers - it's a good way to get people not to use it. I realize it makes the presentation a bit slicker, but it's too slow.

With the photographs you have, a nice clean simple html presentation would be very effective.

thank you jeff-

i'm going to take some steps to reduce download time. i had the pop- up window to allow larger photos without the browser's navigation at top; +, washington post and other online papers use pop-up windows extensively; however, while some people don't mind them, it seems to bother enough people to avoid them.

i really like flash though, and think it can be used more efficiently. i'll prob. end up reducing photo size, including it within the existing window, and managing the flash download a little differently. i agree, easy access to my photo's is key. As always, more work to do!

Nice photos, but I find that Flash sites make me feel disoriented. I feel like I don't have any control of navigating the website. I did a master's in instructional technology and from my research found that bells and whistles that Flash provides are not always a good thing. I personally dislike mouseovers, I'd rather click to navigate. Do yourself a favor and learn javascript if you haven't already. You can do some useful things with javascript without being too "flashy".
