Brand new to Leica...two images for you

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

Hello all,

I am a proud new owner of a M6 TTL (.72) and 35mm f2 (non-asph). Have owned just about every type of camera over the past 15 years (mostly MF) but always wanted a M.

Sold off most all of my MF stuff (Hassy, Mamiya, Pentax) (I am no longer photographing for a living) and decided to "take the plunge".

Anyway...

Here is a link to two shots off my first Leica roll.

I am still getting used to the "feel" of the camera, but I am totally amazed at the overall quality. I have never seen 35mm negs with so much detail. I am also a long time Nikon user, and was never able to get this type of resolution using that system. And that M6 shutter.....! Wow. This could be the beginning of a BEUUUTIFUL friendship.

Thanks for taking a look....any critique is more than welcome (I have thick skin!)

Cheers

Welcome! Thanks for sharing the photos. I'm new to Leica (been about a month or so), and I've posted a few photos as well (snapshots):

I too was happy with the 1st roll. And it keeps getting better. Hope you have a nice projector to let the images shine, I bought a Leica with the colorplan 90/2.5 lens. Anyway, keep up the postings!

Hi Rich, your pictures reminds me of the few days I spent in Monterey. Sigh... wanna swap living for a while? You get to live an hour from the polar circle in Sweden, and I get to live in Monterey (yes!) :-)

I am also a new Leica user, have had the camera (M6 + 1970 summicron 50/2) four months. The black & white negatives are beautiful but I find it rather difficult, actually, to get that quality to show in the print. A bit frustrating. Colour negatives are nice too, but being at the mercy of a store (for colour prints) makes it even more difficult to get the quality in print. The only disappointment so far is colour positive film but perhaps the Fujichrome 400 I used isn't that great. I'll try something slower, such as Kodak E100s, some day (I prefer negative film). Sounds like I'm not happy with my purchase but I am! With some effort I have been able to make b&w prints that are very nice and almost show how good the negatives are. I suspect that my photo clubs enlarger is out of alignment.

My story is more or less the same. I used to own six Nikon bodies with numerous lenses, Rolleiflex and Fuji MF, etc.

I sold everything and now I live happily with my two Leica M6, visoflex system, and a couple of M lenses including what I think is the best lens in the world - 75mm Summilux - something that you should really consider.

Just my personal opinion, get the 35mm ASPH summicron, IT DOES MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
