Arsenal - Champions League

Currently 2-0 down to Depor at home.

Can't say I really want them to lose, Arsenal are my second favourite team and I'd be devestated if that lovely man Arsene Wenger was unrewarded for all his hard work this season.

We could, should and fully deservedly have beaten them on Sunday

Would the National press crow on about two defeats in a row meaning the end of their season

Somehow me think not

How would defeat tonight affect their standing in their group? Wouldn't want them to go out of the CL before our replay as they'd only work even harder to beat us. Or beat us up, if some of their players have their way. ;-)

If they win tonight - means they are more or less through. Don't know what it means if they lose.

How about a draw? Ideal if a draw means everything rides on the Juve match. Hopefully Juve will help their black and white brethren and tire Arse out. ;-)

If they lose then they have it all to play for in their next TWO games after that.

A loss is the PERFECT scenario

Vieira and Henry will both likely be suspended anyway, but Pires could be rested completely against us if the CL is viewed as more important. 3 games in a week is just too much for poor little Robert Pires, it's not as if he's world class or anything and is expected to handle a few games.

Henry misses a penalty

Aah, shame.

Trouble is Paul, there's only 1 game left after this and it's next Wednesday i.e. 3 days BEFORE they play us.

Arsenal are away to Juve and Leverkusen are away to Deportivo. If results stay the same it will be Deportivo 10 pts (3 gd). Arse 7 (1) Leverkusen 7 (-3) andJuve 4 (-1). It will be all to play for but I don't think the result makes much difference to how they'll line up or play against us. Let's just enjoy them getting beat!

But with a bit of luck, they'll need to put out thir strongest team next Wednesday to stop Juve overtaking them. That should include Dennis the Menace. I wonder how long it takes to travel back from Juve. With a bit of luck, he'll not be back much before Friday. And the rest of them will be sh@gged out. Marvelous ;-)

I know Vieira and Henry are likely to be missing, but even if it just means they are worked harder and have to put 110% in then that's fine by me.

Maybe someone could have a word with some French unions to arrange some kind of blockade at the Chunnel entrance and ferry terminals, so Bergie will be delayed a rather long time.

Why stop at that Ciara? Why not close off both ends when he's inside? That would also stop the assylum-seeker problems too.

Or we could change the "AIRPORT" sign to "NOT AIRPORT" and trick him into going in.

He'll have a breakdown on the pitch and get sent off for diving then :)

If Arsenal lose 2-0 to Juve they are out. A lesser defeat and it depends on Leverkeusen losing.

If they get the same result, or better, in Juve than Leverkeusen do in Coruna they are through.

They cannot finish above Coruna

Just watched the highlights and apparently it's more complicated, but more clear cut than that!

It must depend on the results between the teams in the event of being level on points. Juve are out. Deportivo ate through. If Leverkusen win, they're through. I think they said if Leverkusen and Arsenal both draw, Arsenal go through - not 100% sure on that one.

In fact Deportivo didn't eat anyone! - Should have said Deportivo ARE through. :o))

Depor murdered Arsenal. It was great to see those petulant French brats given a sound lesson. Make no mistake, Depor WILL win this cup because they are a great team. But the look on Henry's spoilt face when he missed that pen was a picture! Depor could have won by more and they showed to beat Arsenal at home attack at pace through the middle and play fast one touch stuff. Valeron was awesome. As was Mauro Silva, Vieira wasn't in it!

Got to love Depor for spoiling Real Madrid's centenury so spectacularly. They are a fantastic side.

I think they said if Leverkusen and Arsenal both draw, Arsenal go through - not 100% sure on that one.

The final positions in the group are worked out based on the results between the sides. If both Leverkusen and Arsenal win then Leverkusen go through - they go above Depor as they have a better record against them. Depor have a better record against Arsenal so they finish 2nd. They all finish on 10 points, Arsenal could have +1million gd and still finish 3rd.

. If they draw Arsenal finish above the Germans because they have won and drawn against them.

Or Bob Wilson was talking sh!te.

I have just had a strange thought that if Arsenal lose and go out of the CL, we will get the backlash.

They'll have 5 possible less fixtures than before and will go all out to win the cup (without Henry and Vieira)

-- Anonymous, March 13, 2002

Nah. I suspect their French imports are starting to think about the World Cup. Hence their sensitivity to any type of aggressive play.
