Quote of the day:

The strategic majority of the American establishment, and the greater part of the American people, are resolved to do "whatever it takes" to erase the humiliation and fear and rage that followed the aggression against civil society on September 11.

-Christopher Hitchins

Why we fight

Fair Warning: Get that falafel to go, Saddam, 'cause it looks like we're coming sooner than was thought . Yesterday there was a lot of scrambling to link Iraq to 9/11. Ask any Kurd if they feel that's a requirement to take out 17 palaces full of killer poison. One way or the other, W's going to do it.

Talking Head Tedium: Where David Letterman or Ted Koppel are going to work has been a five day story now. Today's advance on this excitement is that Letterman isn't leaving CBS and Ted Koppel is "bitter." We never like to shrug at anything that happens, big or small, it's all grist for the news mill, but this particular coverage is nothing but ego engorgement and is about as interesting as where Britney Spears parked her gum . Go......stay......happy....bitter...rich...richer....shaddup now. Most of America is in bed by the time either of these guys come on and really, really don't care.

Towers of Hope: Out of all the petty squabbling over what should be erected in tribute to New York's fallen at Ground Zero has come something irresistibly beautiful. Twin shards of brilliant light will pierce the night sky in lower Manhattan ethereally replicating the fallen towers. They are only supposed to last a month but we predict people will not want them turned off - ever.

All In The Family: The Washington Post tries to raise some anti-nepotism hackles over the administration's penchant for appointing their own. Like this is something new? Let's not have a boring Clinton hiring recap and just be grateful that Roger and the Rodham boys could never have passed a civil service exam. They had to pick up their chits by selling pardons.

Not Exactly Chick Stuff: Because we like the idea of our soldiers killing the enemy and breaking stuff, we are particularly drawn to Victorino Matus' (is that a great name or what?) detailed description and correction on how our things that go Boom! work . It's in the current Weekly Standard and we particularly like the last line.

Ldotter Note: An evil flu bug has run roughshod through the LComStaff and we are operating on fewer cylinders than usual. Be gentle with us today. There is fever among us. Keep those nasty notes about popups to a minimum. We know all about them and are working with our ad agency to help stamp them out. Our pops are not nearly as ubiquitous as the big newspaper sites. Go click on any of them and see.
