what is the difference between projection and spot welding? Whether projection weld and spot weld can be done in same machine? What exactly decides the welding practice is projection weld or spot weld?

Both of these are derivates of Resistance Welding application. Basic difference is that in Spot Welding the INTENDED CONTACT between two surfaces are planar, whereas in Projection a POINT CONTACT is made between the two components.

Yes, can be done in the same machine with appropriate toolings, secondary design and also if the Welding Current & Forces required for the Weld Quality can be ensured with the COMMON machine.

Here very important will be to study the Application which you are reffering to, then only the above can be specifically suggested.
