Country families went password

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Beyond the Sidewalks : One Thread

I just noticed Country families went to password. They had trouble with a troll.

Yeah, I saw it earlier -- they were getting spammed like crazy.

Sure can't blame Melessa, she put up with a lot before she did it tonight. Earlier tonight I was there and someone had generated over 40 threads with a verse from Leviticus. Did the same thing a couple of times before.

She posted on CS about having to go this route, but plans to delete the password. That troll is as bad as bin lauden (hey, you thing maybe?)

Based on previous history with that forum I have a pretty strong suspicion of who the troll is. He's also started a second forum with an extremely similar name to bash Country Families.

I see that the spamming has started up again this morning. He's now hiding them in existing threads rather than starting new ones. I would imagine it makes more work for Melissa that way, since she'll have to delete individual posts rather than just deleting the entire post. I think that she's going to need to leave the password protection on longer, if not permanently.

I see she switched it back. I agree with Sherri about the other forum. I noticed the same thing.

What's the other forum?

-- Anonymous, March 13, 2002

Sheepish, look at the Lusenet list -- Stan has added five forums, one is Country Satan and the other four are misspelled variations on Country Families.

I don't know if Stan has gone off the deep end, or if someone is doing a very good job at pretending to be him...either option is disturbing.

Poor Melissa, she must be in tears. She just wrote a surrender post and apparently will let stan do his worst.

Are we talking the same "stan" from CS??? Wow, I hope it is a real troll and not "the stan" we all know from there! I have a good reason to suspect that he ( the real stan) might be spamming that site though, stan really, really abhors and despises Mitch and Melissa for whatever reasons known only to her (she lives very near me and I am familar with her and her family somewhat) thinks that Mitch is very akin to having the ability to walk on water, so to speak!!!

I have been in contact with another friend of Melissa's ( snuffy@1st.net who used to contribute there before Mitch was a big item there) and he thinks the same thing. Snuffy also despises Mitch, being a veteran himself of two wars, he thinks Mitch is a total and complete sham, who preys on the pity of others to better himself in whatever way possible.

I don't read other Lusenet forums other than Countryside and BTS but I did drop into look at those other variations on a theme of Country Families forums and it does seem that Stan is the one that put them up. If someone else is passing themselves off as Stan in doing this he doesn't seem to be hollering about it.

From a couple of posts that Mitch has put up in Countryside he's not my favorite poster either but what Stan seems to be doing is over the top. Unless he can make a convincing argument that someone else is passing themselves off as him his credibility is shot.

I don't know if all of these forums/posts are really Stan or not. My best guess? Probably. Until he comes out and tells us what sent him over the edge, we won't know why he did this. I know that in my own life, I've had moments of frustration with cloying "niceness" and fradulent "piety" and had thoughts of temporarily going nuts and screaming fu** at the top of my lungs, or lifting my hind leg and farting loudly, or something equally rude and socially unacceptable. So far, I've managed to restrain myself (at least until I've gotten home and can run out in the woods to holler!) It's a common enough feeling, and being as our levels of restraint vary depending on our stressors, well, it's not too difficult to believe that he simply slipped his collar for the moment.

Like Annie, I know that Stan has a virulent dislike for Mitch - I feel some kinship there, as I find Mitch pretty hard to take myself, most days. I don't know why the Christian crew have taken Mitch to heart and hearth - my best guess is that they're hoping for a conversion; though I also have a feeling that Hoot and Mitch are cut from the same piece of cloth. I find it hard to believe that it would be a true conversion, as I feel Mitch is a user and manipulator. His posts on CF are sure a lot different from some of his posts on other forums; not to mention his choice of forums would probably be enough to induce the vapors over there! Personally, I find Melissa almost as hard to take as Mitch. Maybe, like me, Stan has been the recipient of "a gentle rebuke" via personal e-mail from Melissa - for posts on forums other than CF. Adding on the fact that the me-too crew don't seem to realize that they are adding fuel to the fire with their "we'll pray for you" and "we're only trying to help you when we tell you how wrong you are" posts; well the flame of anger just burns brighter and brighter.

As I said, I don't condone Stan's actions, and I'm sorry that he chose this way to act out as I can see that he has lost the respect of a lot of good people.

Stan has been on the CST forum and has been fairly well behaved. He has been a smart ass to me in private e-mails but only in a joking way and when I told him he was a jerk he appologized, sort of. I think he must have an evil twin or an alter ego. But it is him I am sure. It is jerky behavior and I am glad I have never been the brunt of it personally.
