A sigh of relief

Quiet.

Do you hear that?

That sound was the collective sigh of relief of all those M5 owners and verbally abused and under appreciated M5 cameras.

They're so glad the M7 has arrived. Maybe now they'll get a break from all those marketing experts who couldn't themselves sell bubble gum to a 13 year old bimbo with braces and a pony tail.

Excuse my sophomoric intelligence, but I seem to be unable to comprehend the thrust of your post...

Pete,

I'm sorry, I HAVE to step in on this politically incorrect thread! Not all 13 year old bimbos with braces and pony tails chew gum! And I can tell you most of them wouldn't be seen dead with an M5 either!

Without agreeing or disagreeing - I THINK what Pete is getting at is that, with the M7, Leica is finally moving ahead technologically - something they last tried with the 'abused' M5. For thirty years the 'marketing experts' have been selling the outdated technology of the M4-2/P/M6 as a plus, ever since the M5 fiasco scared them off change and improvements.

In effect the M7 is the camera that would have followed directly from the M5 - if the M5 had succeeded.

That's just my interpretation...

Why blame the "marketing experts" at Leica for the M5 fiasco? The Leica M5 was a failure because Leica fans and users of that time refused to buy it despite the advances and features it had over the M4! :-)

Just to clear things up, what I was trying to get across was that a lot of you are doing to the M7 what your fathers (or maybe some of you) did to the M5. I guess the M7 will draw some heat off the M5 but I really think you all should lay off the M7. Give it a chance. If you don't like it, don't buy one. Use an M6, an M3 or maybe even a IIIC. Leave the poor camera alone. There are a lot of things Leica could have done. This is what they did do. Remember, they need to concern themselves with being around in 20 years. Such a small company could easily be killed off by a single marketing mistake. The M5 nearly killed them once. Give the damn M7 a chance.

Oh, is that what you meant. Now it makes sense.

Hello Pete. The M5 was a design that ironically for the M user was too far ahead of it's time. When I first handled this bulky ,squared off body which was so "non-Leica" and which was discounted to blazes to sell, I could never realize in 25 years it would be more appreciated, even fashionable.By way of comparison I think the M7 will be a more immediate, marketable proposition. Regards.
