2-1 to Newcastle after goals from Ameobi and Kerr. Chopra played the whole match.

Just back from KP and thawing out with a mug of coffee! Pretty much the same team as last week apart from Boyd for McClen. We almost had a team in the stands with Dyer, Jenas, Elliott and Beardsley with Robert and Distin arriving at half-time!

Not a bad game. We had more of the play in the first half but couldn't finish. Second half Bobby came down to the dugout and stood on the touchline with Tommy Craig. Don't know if this spurred the lads on but Shola scored from a scramble in front of goal and a couple of minutes later Kerr hit a superb shot from about 20 yards out into the top corner of the net. Chopra was unlucky not to score for the second week in a row. He hit a cracking shot just over shortly before half time and had a few other chances. Shola looked like he couldn't be *rsed a lot of the time but did make some decent runs.

Their goal came a few minutes from the end. I didn't really see it as it was at the other end and I was on the 'phone at the time! We won and it stayed dry - not a bad evening!

Another fine report Steph - well done. Devotion to duty above and beyond the call there. Great to hear so many first teamers interested. Obviously the "want-away" Robert must have been there just to say goodbye to the youngsters. :-)

I think we should have a whip-round on the BBS and get you a new set of thermals for next season.

Non! Il n'était pas moi. Il était mon jumeau mauvais, Guillaume. Je suis dans Disneyland jusqu' ŕ vendredi. Bonjour!

Good good stuff last night.
We played really well at time against a big well organised team of strapping athletes. Most of the time the opposition put out teams of youngsters or half fit fringe players but Bolton didn't and I was quite impressed with them.
We played 442
Collin
Griffin - Caldwell - Marcelino - Quinn
Chopra - Kerr - Boyd - Bernard
LuaLua - Ameobi

Collin could be a good'un
Griffin is much improved - I've questioned his fitness at times this season but he is now ready and could possibly make the first team if Hughesy gets the flu. Caldwell and Quinn are OK but first eleven I'm not so sure. That's the best I've seen Marcelino play, he was up against hammer throwers and the boy did good, accomplished in the air and on the deck.
McClen has delighted me with his first team showings of late, I didn't think he would do such a good job. McClen, Green (now at Carlisle) and Kerr I thought were much of a much ness earlier in the season but I'm changing my opinion of how good they are, Kerr was smashing in the middle of things last night. He's brave, inventive, confident and talented and he's improving game after game. Boyd and Kerr play well together. Chopra at some point in time will play and score for Newcastle and he'll play and score for England too. Bernard is of Premier league standard.
I learned little about LuaLua and Ameobi they both do good things and they both do poor things. I feel with both of them that they must make strides towards controlling the ball and integrating this advantage into the team's play. At present much more than 50% of the time what they do comes to nothing.
The team as a whole played with great shape, commitment and I liked their attitude.

Robert - at the reserves?

Unbelievable.

Yes, it was definitely him! Joined by Distin after about 10 minutes.

So, he's made as many reserve appearances as our future manager has so far this season, then? Is that right, Steph?

Ah, now it becomes clear. Shearer doesn't like Robert because he thinks Robert is after his job. ;-)

On the basis of the fairly glowing reports on Marcy's performances lately, is there any way back for him ?

I've thought for ages that we could save a tidy wedge by re- habilitating him, but maybe it's not worth putting somebody else's nose out of joint, and a better approach may be to get him playing out of his skin to up the selling price.

Now Distin is playing left back, we need another central defender. As much as I admire Dabizas's effort and commitment, he continues to have those lapses in concentration that can cost us dear. If Marcelino continues to play well in the reserves, we whould wipe the slate clean and try again with him.

We certainly need to do SOMETHING Dabizas has been at fault for the last four goals againt us.
