RF / lens misalignment

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

Just shot some stuff at F2 on my M6/50mm summicron. The lens is definatley focusing nearer than the RF but the RF lines up on infinity and checks out OK if I do a 1m/2m check in the mirror - lens in need a service/adjustment. When you shoot at smaller apertures you don't notice it - infact I have never used a lens that is this sharp corner to corner. I would like to use it wide open as well though.

have you shot photos with the lens on another M mount camera -- perhaps in a photo store if you don't own/have access to a second body. i believe lens defects are MUCH rarer than in-camera rf problems.

Send the camera and the lens to a good leica tech. I would suspect the camera rangefinder arm is too long and needs to be shortened slightly (there is an ecentric pivot where the arm attaches to the shaft). I did once have a lens cam that needed adjustment but it is rare.
