35 mm Summaron in screw mountgreenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread |
Any comments on this lens ? They appear to be very available and cheap. Do they differ much from their bayonet mount counterpart ?Regards,

I think that it has the same lens design as the one in bayonet mount if I am not mistaken.Personally go for the Voigtlander Ultron. It's better than the older Summaron. Unless you have a phat bank account, save dolo by getting the VC counterpart and then save up for the latest ASPH 35mm :D

Check out the Leica Historical Society of America site. It has a recent articel on the 235 mm summaron - both screw and bayonet mounts.

I have the f3.5 Summaron in LTM, but use it on my M6 with an adaptor. It is a soft lens by todays standards, and has a lot of vignetting, but it is nice for a 'nostalgia' type look, especially on bright sunny days. It still has the Leica 'bokeh' and roundness of image qualities.

Hello Tony. I have used f2.8 35mm. Summaron in both earlier collectable screw mount(one metre close focus) version and later bayonet mount version.Despite the fact that both versions have the same 6 element layout I found the bayonet mount more contrasty and "modern" in the images it produced.I recall the lens coatings as different in each version. Regards.
