Cage wire suppliers??

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Raising meat rabbits for profit : One Thread

I am wondering if anyone has a source for the really hard wire to make cages from? I don't want the hardware cloth as there is too much sag in it, but the teeny kind of cattle panel type stuff. Thanks!!

I would try your local feed mill or a farmers exchange store.

I got mine from Klubertanz equipment company in Wisconsin. 1800-237-3899 or klubertanz@ticon.net

Thanks! I emailed for a catalog. It does seem they are the only ones in the country!

Actually, almost all of the major rabbit equipment companies carry rolls of wire. You can also go to the library and look through the Thomas Regional Industrial Buying Guide for your area for wire manufacturers. We got our rolls from Aslin-Finch.

I would think shipping would be alot .How about your local hardware store , maybe they can order it .Feed stores , home depot , lowles ? I know in NY they all have the wire on back order .

Unfortunately, hardware stores generally sell wire "by the foot"... and are very expensive! The same with feed and farm supply stores. Aslin-Finch is a fencing company, and we were able to get the best prices, there, without having to go to the actual manufacturers. Buying direct from manufacturers generally requires a business UBI number for buying wholesale quantities for resale purposes.

Maybe I lucked out because are local feed stores do have it .

One of the reasons I am looking elsewhere is the cost here is simply outrageuous. Also I want to make them somewhat customized in the size department. I got the Klubertanz catalog today and will peruse it this evening. Thanks!!!!

Patty... I didn't say that feed stores DON'T have the wire... only that it is usually more expensive, there... the same as with hardware stores.

Guess I really lucked out as my local feed stores are very good to me and don't charge an arm and a leg .If anyone is close to the Canadain border have you checked there ? Last I checked the exchange rate was 62 on the dollar .
