Successful Childrens party

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Country Families : One Thread

My daughter had her birthday party today and had a great time. Only a few kids showed-but they were her favorite classmates, so they had a great time. I had a few party games in mind, but as it turned out I just let them play upstairs-she has a few puppets and they made up an impomptu puppet show.-I believe that most of the times kids do best left alone -If I had said-"ok, now we will make up a puppet show" they would never had done it! I took Melissa's sugestion and went to dollar tree and got really neat plates and napkins at a really low cost- I used "Rainbow" as a theme-everything was very colorful! I just blew up balloons and tied them with sparkely curly ribbon and ran a few crepe streamers around. I did buy some sparkely party hats and noise makers. I made a her favorite cake-just a plain sheet cake-chocolet with chocolet icing and wrote Happy Birthday Rachel on it and sprinkled some colored candy sprinkles on it with "rainbow" ice cream(neopolaton) and rainbow cookies-plain cookies with m and m's I was really tightwaddy on party favors-we raided the toy boxes and found a bowlful of trinkets that my kids have brought home from partys, or carnivals or cereal boxes etc. I had bright plastic bowls already that I used. I also found, at Dollar Tree, little plastic tumblers in bright primary colors. As a center piece, I wrapped a piece of styrofoam in a scrap of bright wrapping paper. In the center I put a whirley pin-wheel, and all aeound I stuck (generic) Blow pop type suckers. It looked really cute. The guests all got to take home a balloon, a handful of trinkets, a bright plastic tumbler and a blow pop. The whole thing was less than fifteen dollars-some things can be re-used and the very best part was-the kids said"wow, this was a great party!" and my daughter said it was the best party she ever had.

Thanks for all the suggestions and tips!
