I got two hits on this:

San Francisco Societies (1890) http://www.zpub.com/sf50/sf/hgsoc.htm

It must be still in existence, as the Royal Court Brass claims to have been in 30 concerts with the Loring Club Men’s Chorus (and the RCB was formed in 1970) http://www.bamusic.org/rcb/info.htm

I was looking up the Loring Club myself because I sang in it in San Francisco and wanted to contact it for information. I was amazed to find someone else looking for it. I sang in it either during the years 1954 - 1956 or during the years 1961 - 1964. Between '57 and '61 I was living in Boston / Cambridge. I am not at all sure whether I would remember your grandfather's name, but you might mention it to me and I will try to recall if we overlapped in the club. The Loring Club's director was a demanding and good vocal musician and director and it was a very good musical experience for me. During either of those same periods I also sang in the Olympic Club chorus in San Francisco. When I put "Loring Club" up on the Google Search engine I was basically in the same mode as Kelly Laugenour - that is trying to find more information about it. Are you, Kelly, related to the Laugenours of Woodland, California ?

My father was also a member of the Loring Club. I have many fond memories of attending rehearsals and performances, most notably the year the Club sang in the chorus of Die Meistersinger with the San Francisco Opera. My dad's name was Charles Bruce, and he sang baritone for many years. Thanks for the memories!

My husband, Herman Philip Brown, was the son of Blanche Laugenour Brown. Her father was Andrew Laugenour. The Laugenours were from North Carolina. Several of the brothers went to Woodland, California. They were John Laugenour, Thomas Laugenour, Samuel Laugenour, Lewis Laugenour. Many Laugenours still live in the Woodland, California area.
