Commitment: Is it over-rated?

Can we afford to carry one player who isn't as commited as the rest (no prizes for guessing who), or is commitment the number one reason why one player is picked ahead of another?

It Is VERY important but can be excused if the player is exceptional. If a superstar was going to save us from relegation but didn't give 2 sh*ts about the club I'm sure we'd put up with them. So it is not the MOST important thing but in LR's case he is not producing the goods. If he was, we'd all put up with his lack of commitment. When a player is not doing well and at the same time does not have his heart in the right place then it becomes a problem.

If Beckham didnt have commitment then he'd be shit. Every player needs commitment. Commitment is the father of competition, you must have commitment if you want to win.

What do you want?

Lossmittment? (shite new word but hey)

Its no use being technically gifted and fit but not having commitment. Its like having a williams ferrari at brands hatch but not having the starting key.

If you aint got commitment then go and smoke a joint, drink ten pints a night, dont do sport, eat lard.....

Every world class performer has commitment....

According to .com and they seem to know everything - Robert was 'volubly' criticised by some of his teamates after the game last night.

Wonder how long this little snippet will take to reach the national press as 'NUFC dressing room bust-up' type headline.

I hope it was his French team mates who volubly criticised him cos if his commitment to learning English is anything like his commitment on the pitch, he wouldn't understand a word of a bollicking in English.

Occasionally things that NUFC.COM publish make me a bit uncomfortable. If the press hadn't heard about it, you can guarantee that at least the Ronnie will have heard about it.

I'm now expecting "Toon's Title Hopes Buried by Dressing Room Divisions - French Ace Robert lambasted by team-mates" by Sunday at the very latest.

Robert does not give two shits about the club? How can anyone but him even say that? What the h*ll do we know about how he feels about anything.

And can we afford to keep this allegedly uncomitted player? If he's playing and we are fourth on the league table, we most certainly can.

Ultimately, Mika, this is what is p*ssing me off most about it: that people are moving from a bad performance on the pitch to say he doesn't give a toss about the club. So he goes back to Frnace a lot. Rob Lee bought a house in Durham to get onto the motorway back to London quicker. So he was wasn't committed to the club? His body language is poor? Anyone remember the original BBS where Shearer's body language was a constant source of discussion a la, will he stay or won't he? Goes to Disneyland when everyone else has got the week off too, but who gets slagged off? This is just unfair and, if he doesn't care about the club, can anyone really blame him?

Give him a bit longer to build up love of the club. I bet Nobby didn't really love the club as much as he does now when he joined.

He loves it so much now he plays the trumpet in St James' Park for the BBC!

Aye Dougal! Psychoanalysis from the Stands. Worth Nowt.

As you pointed out the last time this came up, Dougal, nobody hears of other players leaving the area. So the immediate reaction is that Robert mustn't care if he's flitting off to France all the time. But it is true, that just cause we don't hear about it, doesn't mean half the rest of the squad isn't similarly flitting off out of the area. The fact that wherever any of them go they still come back should mean something. Wasn't it Domi who went to France and never came back?

And as I was posting, Robert scores to bring us level. You can flit back to Disneyland any time you want Bonnie Lad!!!!! :-D
