Recently I was chatting with someone about a beautiful standard Poodle I saw going past me in a car. This person told me poodles didn't have fur like other dogs, that it was hair. Consequently, those with allergies to dogs could have poodles. Is this true?

I'm a professional groomer and will say that poodles, bichons, and any mixes of these breeds do tend to have a slightly different textured hair/fur than other breeds. I also raise standards and can attest that I have no shedding dogs in "my" house. Some folks are allergic to dog hair but the majority are allergic to the dog's dander. My best friend is "allergic" to dogs but she seems to do well in my house with the poodles. Hope this answers your question.
