Quote of the day:

"I don't know from what part of the twelve-step culture this idea sprung forth, but there seem to be an awful lot of people who seem to believe that if someone hates you, you must have done something wrong."

-Jonah Goldberg at NRO commenting on Muslim hatred for America.

The legacy building continues.

Thongs for the Memory: It was the most expensive flingette in American political history (excepting, perhaps, what Happy Rockefeller did for Mary Todhunter Rockefeller's divorce settlement.) Bill Clinton won't serve a day of hard time for obstructing justice and lying through his eyes, nose, ears and mouth. His only punishment will be living with himself and the eternal snickering. With yesterday's issuing of the Ray Report we can also say good-bye to the sorriest chapter in the history of the American presidency. At least until Betty Curry desperately needs money. There are several takes on the story on site but here is USA Today's offering of snippets of Monica's handwritten hissy fit in which she accuses Ken Starr & Company of being obsessed with a "certain sexual act." Well, geez, girl, the whole country was.

Koppel to CNN? Why Not? CNN is looking more and more like the elephants' graveyard and Koppel can only add to it. Most had forgotten he was still on the air and didn't realize his audience could stay up that late. Maybe he and Bill Press could wander the halls asking, "Did you order the mocha java or the double latte?"

Remember The Al Qaeda Laptop? This fascinating piece posted last night from an online publication out of Indonesia seems to have an ominous ring of truth regarding the background on Danny Pearl's kidnapping and death. It's a bit inside but worth a lunch time read. Perhaps this is something the Wall Street Journal might want to follow up on.... or maybe not.

She Keeps on Truckin': One of the most depressing political sights to date is a weary, not exactly healthy, 63 year old Janet Reno punching up a cell phone in the passenger seat of a red pickup truck with a blonde aide at the wheel. She is crossing the barren landscape of the panhandle of Florida looking for voters to put her in Jeb Bush's job. We are the last folks to sound ageist but how sad is it to want something that badly when there are petunias to be planted? She won't get the job but you have to admire her for trying.

Always A New Scam: Just when people in the publishing business thought they had seen it all, along comes Washington Post reporter David Vise with a plan to hype his book , "The Bureau and the Mole: The Unmasking of Robert Philip Hanssen" never seen before. It's both complicated and mysterious but worth the read. The irony, as with a lot of scams, if this is one, is that he didn't need to do this. The book is a bestseller on its own. Check it out.
