I really dont think we can blame the ref for losing yesterday. He missed a lot of suspected penaltys for Pool also.

Curiously enough, although I normally can't stand Jeff Winter, I thought he had a really good game last night - apart from missing the penalty on Solano, which may not have that easy to spot.

Regarding "luck", we had our share earlier in the season, and I'm afraid things are evening out now - we haven't had a shred of good fortune in our last two games, or even a single bounce of the ball.

It is not factually correct that you have had:

More penalties than anyone else

More own goals in your favour than anyone else

More sent off opposition than anyone else

How much more do you want?

Lots more SK, if that's okay with you. In fact, just enough to get us into Europe, preferably the CL.

soops,

* penalties are generally earned.
* sendings off and own goals are often the result of good offensive play.

We've earned much of our good fortune this season through all out attacking, often attractive, football. Right now we're getting no luck whatosever, either on the field or off it - so I guess things are evening themselves up.

Super, we have pace and generally attack. That's why we get these things. Long may it continue.

Depsite having the likes of McCann in your side, you've had no sendings off despite the fact that he has committed more fouls than Danny Mills. How many goals have you had disallowed (if it had 8 as in our case, you would already be relegated).

Why do you think Compo felt the need to come out and say that you are not a lucky team on tuesday?

Maybe the facts have been made availble to him?

Teams at the bottom get nowt. Teams at the top get everything( even when it appears they dont need it) Witness Derby v Man United.

Would that goal have bee ruled out at the other end?

....erh, yes - call me a gullible ol' f*rt (wait for it!), but I do believe it would have been.

Frankly, if I didn't have an implicit faith in the impartiality of our Referees, irrespective of their competance, I'd stop attending footy games instantly.

Deep down I probably DO believe in them but history is littered with 'big clubs' getting all the luck.

-- Anonymous, March 07, 2002

.... it does seem that way, I know.

Oh and your a gullible old fart. Tee hee.

If refs were biased etc. it would take some major sort of conspiracy which I don't think international and domsetic football is sufficiently clever to orchestrate. Inept refs are another matter.

Anyway, what about that perfectly good goal Chelsea had disallowed at your place. You'd had a penalty given and a goal by the opposition disallowed. See "little clubs" and "under dogs" get all the decisions.

Dougal,we could have a tit for tat discussion about this all day and night. But come on, Manchester United and Liverpool??????? They get every bloody thing. AS you have THIS season. I can point back to some ridiculous decisions against Sunderland but I really cannot be arsed to do so.

Kev, that was what I was trying to point out. You think we've had luck with decisions. From watching your lot on Sky etc, I'd have to say that you don't to me, look like having had a bad crack at the whip yourself. I'm not sure that Man Utd and Liverpool do get all the decisions although seeing stats for bookings and freekicks etc would be interesting. All I'm going to say is that we had goals disallowed at Anfield and Old Trafford this season. There was nothing wrong with the latter but I can't say a word about the one at Anfield. We were denied a cast iron penalty last night but they had a couplo of weaks claims turned down that a biased ref might have given them. Who knows?

I did notice that we haven't had the bounce of the ball recently. I hate to blame that for results, but surely it must play a part.

Annoying things like someone going in for a tackle, which bounces awkwardly and lands right in the path of their striker, or a mishit pass by one of the opposition landing nicely for them.

Little things like that are never mentioned in match reports, but I am sure they must affect the players mentally sometimes.

Alex Ferguson always moans about refs. And then there is Wenger, the world is against them, nearly as much of the whole world as Leeds face up to every week.

Over a season, in the league, luck, the bounce evens out. Cup matches is different cos if you're out you're out and there's no later chance but the whole idea of a league is that every one plays everyone and then things even up. The problem is that at the end of the season when games are like cup ties and the result seems to matter more the luck element seems more pivotal. I think the worst bit of luck was Shay cocking up the Chelsea shot on the first day ??
