I am after similar answers. I have a set of two latest VCD discs from Asia that plays well in a machine VCD player. Using CloneCD, CDwin or Nero copy programs, the tray and disc will be ejected, hence making reading these VCDs impossible. Windows explorer will say they is no disc in tray. SthSVCD or MediaPlayer cannot play these VCD discs. Cleaning VCDs with liquid cleaners makes no difference. Cannot extract bin/cue images either. New kind of protection for VCD?

I've never heard of this. It might be a new type of copy protection. VCD piracy is a big problem in Asia and the format offers no support for copy protection. This might be an attempt to offer some copy protection. Would you or Tomo mind posting a followup? Please let me know the specific names of any VCD either of you have that seem to be uncopyable or unplayable. It would be great if you know of a reliable internet source that could be used to purchase these VCDs. I might get a few and take a look at them.

Info update on the set of 2 weird Asian VCD karaoke discs. These original pressed discs are not readable in any one of the 10 burner units been tested on, but could be read and played on CDROM, DVDROM and VCD machines.

Using CloneCD to read from CDROM to hard disc and then copied image to CD-R media were successful. The copied discs can now play on burner units and VCD machines. However, the original pressed discs will still not be read in any burner unit and is reporting each time that there is no disc in tray and ejects tray.

TO JASON: - this may not be a VCD protection system. There may be no lead-in or lead-out or the VCD is not closed when authoring.

I had already such kind of problem, after a lot of investigation I found that the adaptor which connect VCD to TV had problem. By changing that the problem was solved

I am experiencing the same difficulty at the moment, but it plays fine in a DVD player. Where do you find a copy of vpplays.exe? John
