Purple Martins and barn swallows

Can Purple Martin's and Barn Swollows share a common area? My wife wants to put up a Purple martin house, however the last few years we have had Barn Swallows in the stables. I like the swallows because they keep the bee's out of the stable and the fly's away from the llamas.

I would however like the insect control near the house the martins will bring. Martins by day, bats by night.

How agressive are the two birds?

Gramps has both at his farm and I never saw them fighting.

They will do find together...They don't even like the same habitat:

Barn swallows in the eaves of the barn & the purple martins' house should be up very high in your yard/lawn.

I will tell the purpmartins down this way they now have a new place to park on the northern end of their migrations.
