Easing up the garden prep (Garden (General)greenspun.com : LUSENET : A Country Singletree : One Thread
While I mostly do SFG, some crops like okra perform better in traditional rows. I hand turn my plots as I dont have a working tiller. This was laborous when I had my ex and her son here and I was thinking it would be too much for me on my own, but once again, I surprised myself just by thinking on it a little bit. My solution was this. As I shovel turn the row, I cover it with clear plastic and pin the plastic down with timbers. This keeps the moisture in the turned soil so that I don't have to turn it again before adding wormcast and final cultivation before planting and the sun heating the soil up through it helps kill the weed seeds.
