IF we lose at Anfield................

is that the end of any lingering chances of winning the league?

I nicked this question off TOTT but thought it would be interesting to see everyone's thoughts.

I didn't think we could win anyway but I had hope in my heart!

I think it would make it difficult because we'd be depending on other teams f....g up.

No it's not the end of our chances. Of course it decreases them, but a lot of the teams have to play each other and of course could slip up.

A lot of cocky Man U fans were predicting a 6-0 win for them at Derby, and Liverpool have it in them to slip up at home. As do we.

I wouldn't be suprised if we win tomorrow night, just to throw another spanner in the media works. I definitly think we are capable and besides no-one has done the double over this year.....no one will. I also believe that derby will get a result tonight from arsenal and then hey presto we are right back in the passenger seat along for the ride. I just don't see us losing tomorrow night, just like I thought we wouldn't win on satda. Liverpool have had two freak results at leeds and ipswich, fulham on saturday was a joke, fulham wouldn't have scored in a month of sundays.

I never believed we'd win the league this season, though until Saturday was starting to think it might happen this season. Whatever the result tomorrow night, I'm still keeping my feet on the ground and not believing we'll win. However the chance is still there but will depend on alot more than us just winning matches. I don't think we'll win tomorrow, but I'm not as sure about it as I would have been in the past. This season we've shown we're capable of beating anyone home or away so really, you just never know. I'm just going to try to sit back and enjoy the rest of this season no matter what happens*.

*If we start losing every match from now to season's end I might or might not start complaining loudly. ;-)

Ciara, do you have access to the game tomorrow?? if not, do you want me to tape it for ya?? Same applies to you also Mr. Thompson, be careful the screacher person is threatening a visit to California.

The only access I'll have tomorrow is text updates. :-( So, yeah if you're taping, that'd be wunnerful! :-) Unless the result is ugly, in which case you're better off taping over it with General Hospital or something. ;-)

Syme - I'd love a copy, hopefully I will get the cable situation sorted this week, just moved into a new apartment and the estate agent woman is gonna try to sort it out. Cheers for the offer mate - I owe you more beers now!

We still will have a chance. In fact my target for the 3 games, Sunderland, Bottomnal and Liverpool was just 2 points and estimated a loss against Pool. So we are already slightly up on that target. Every single game after Anfield is winnable and if we can win the vast majority we will go very close.

If we had beaten Arsenal and then won again tomorrow we would have been Champions...Having lost to Arsenal I'll reduce that to we can win the league. Win or loose at Anfield the league is still a possibilty obviously more so after we win there.

Whatever happens it has been a great season...long may it continue

Well I'll be taping it regardless, so, Ciara & Alan if you want copies you can have 'em. Nee probs.

The funniest thing is, the press never fails to mention our shite defence but when Cole and/or Owen score goals against us, they get called World Class.

If we lose at Anfield ... can I be the first to request that folk don't come on here fearing that the sky has all of a sudden fallen on our heads and that we're suddenly total toss.

Thank you

No LT, thank you.....and get yer arse back to Tyneside as we started the winning thing when you arrived.....

I agree, it'll be dooooooooooooooooooooomm man, dooooooooooooooomed if we don't win I bet. It's unlikely we will but worth a bloody visit to the Agincourt Pub for us Sydneysiders at 7am, appropriate name for the Pub like, pity we didn't watch the Arsenal game there;-)

I get a real knot in my stomach when I see a thread like this one. I never thought we would win the league this season - my original prediction was that we would finish slap bang in the middle again. I didn`t think that we would be in the running to win anything this season. Then there we are, hovering around within a few points of the top, still in the FA Cup too.

I`m still saying to myself that we`re not going to win either, but I can`t supress the involuntary fizz of excitement which bubbles up because it IS getting near the end of the season and we ARE still there or thereabouts. The next minute I`m trying to mentally prepare myself for disappointment. Ooh the agony and the ecstasy!

All I can say is `please, please, please don`t let it hinge on the last day of the season` that is just too unbearable to contemplate! (:o!

It's terrible isn't it ! At the beginning of the season a mid-league postion seemed about as much as we could've hoped for. Then even though we were doing much better than that, I wouldn't allow myself to hope too much. But somewhere along the line this last month I must have let myself think there may be a chance, because I am so nervous about tonight's game. Three points would be great and would keep that small hope alive, even a draw might , but if we lose I think I will resign myself to concentrating on qualifying for the Champions League.....ha ha resign myself !! Whatever happens this has been a season way beyond expectations ;-)
