Annanova 05.03.02 - Slaughterman 'killed colleague with bolt gun'

A slaughterman killed a colleague during the foot-and-mouth crisis with a gun used to cull sheep, a court has heard.

Keith Hubbard put the bolt gun to the head of Steven Smart while standing on the uneven bodies of sheep, which the pair had earlier slaughtered, Preston Crown Court was told.

The jury was told that Mr Smart had said to Hubbard: "You missed that one, you bugger," referring to a sheep he was having difficulty in slaughtering.

"I will shoot you, you bugger," Hubbard replied to Mr Smart, the court heard.

Hubbard then grabbed Mr Smart round the shoulders and brought the gun to the left side of his head, it was alleged.

John Milford QC, prosecuting, said a witness saw Mr Smart, 27, of St Leonards, East Sussex, collapse and blood appear.

Hubbard, 38, of Atherstone, Warwickshire, denies manslaughter while working at Great Orton airfield, near Carlisle, Cumbria, in April last year.

Stop bleating on about this and return to the fold football-wise please. I'm sure more people would flock to this BBS if we were discussing what a good job is being done by Freddie Shepherd and what a brilliant striker we have in Alan Shearer.
