In fairness, if Man United supporters want to call themselves "United", we can't complain since we call ourselves United. It's the press doing it that rankles.

I just don't understand how a team can call themselves United when there is another team in the same city! Surely Newcastle United was formed by teams in Newcastle joining together.

I believe it was political, Steph. Newton Heath were going to be called Manchester Celtic but there were concerns that this would be perceived as being sectarian so they chose something that speaks of peace and harmony - ie. United.

Was it a fanzine that called us 'maggots'? Which one?

Bobby, Man Utd fans call us "Maggots" generally.
