.cock says the cup game is sold out

Makes a change from last season when we got only 32,000 for the Villa cup match.

Where do these extra 20,000 come from???

A colleague of mine got there yesterday for 7.30 am and reckons it took him 15 minutes to walk from the Metro station to the end of the queue!

Would that be Heaton Metro? ;-)

One of my workmates got her tickets this morning. And the application only went off Sunday post, spawny get.

It's true: all sorts are coming out of the woodwork for the Cup games. Not that I'm blaming them since some people limit themselves to a certain number of games and choose the Cup games, it's fine. Paul's right, though, where were they for Villa at home last season?

Separately, the club needs to rethink it's Cup tickets free for expensive ST holders - a good 1000 of them hadn't turned up for City despite the game being locked out several times over.

There was a seat next to me and one in front empty for the City game. I'd have applied for extra if I'd known. Or were they not available anyway as bondholders got them included?

-- Anonymous, March 05, 2002

They should have to claim their voucher at least 48 hrs prior to the match, with unclaimed seats being released to the public after that. The club would make more money reselling those seats than leaving them empty.

I don't believe there are any Bondholders still geting free Cup tix Steph.

-- Anonymous, March 05, 2002

I didn't hink there were clarky, but there was definitely something for the City game about them not having to apply for tickets.

Certain of the more expensive seats do still attract free Cup tix and I believe some bondholders still get them.

Re your question about why do so many folk try to get into the cup games - I think it's BECAUSE of the crowds we got against Villa last year. The assumption is that more will be available so you'll have more chance of getting one.

I got Palace ones, no problem, but couldn't get into the Man City game for love nor money.

And before you ask - yes I did go to the Villa game last year [and the flippin' replay - robbed we were!] In fact in 1999 I got into every cup match - including the replay at Blackburn, but didn't get into a single league game at SJP.

Jacko, surely that would have held water when the capacity was lower but until recently, there were always tix available at SJP for league matches. Nowadays even those much-loathed, never-filled seats at the top of the Milburn are full. I doubt anyone had ever sat in them until the Man City game.

Just interesting because we are almost looking at double what we got in the early stages of the Worthington.

Don't know if this clears anything up. My posting of Jan 29th re the Man City game - with info originally taken from the ticket details on the official site:

1) Re Platinum Club Members: "No action is required. To gain admission members should tender Cup Voucher O4 from their cup voucher booklet at their appropriate entrance on the day of the game. YOU MUST BRING YOUR COMPLETE SEASON TICKET BOOK AND SIT IN YOUR NORMAL SEAT."

2) And same info re qualifying Bond Holders to simply turn up at the turnstiles with the correct documents.

That seems to leave open the prospect of poss empty seats if the ticket holder concerned doesn't turn up that Sunday night and/or doesn't pass their voucher etc on to someone else...while other fans are locked out. Or am I missing something here?

...in the end I managed to get a couple of tickets. But it does seem crazy if there are empty seats in the ground and fans desperate to get in - but told the game is sold out.

Perhaps there are free cup tickets to certain people - but not 20,000 of them.

-- Anonymous, March 05, 2002

I think you're right, Paul. I don't know how many qualifying bondholders and dear seats there are but it isn't 20000 by any stretch of the imagination.

They really do have to look at this, as Ciara says. It may be an arseache for these dear seat people to have to send in documentation like the plebs but it may be the only way to avoid empty seats for sold-out games.

Paul...wasn't suggesting my posting related to the 20,000 figure. But there's got to be something wrong if even one seat is empty and there's a genuine fan locked out.

-- Anonymous, March 05, 2002

Yeah I agree totally.

There should be some sort of system (as said earlier on this thread) where the tickets could still be free but have to be claimed so if they aren't needed the seat isn't wasted.

Villa was the third round last season and wasn't much worse attended than Palace this season despite being on the telly.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Must say, if we did get to a Semi and Final, the club should give tix to those who were at the Crystal Palace game as a priority.
