greenspun.com : LUSENET : Country Families : One Thread

Tomorrow looks to be a yucky, snowy day here in SE Ohio, I am in the mood for sauerkraut. So I am gong to fix some pork loin, sauerkraut and potaotes, in the oven. I am going to bake some rye bread, and make a gallon of iced tea! Sounds good on a cold day to me!

(salivates thinking of it)..not to mention a glass of my homemade white wine...I love making wine..it's so much fun! Bon appetit!

How lucky you are Lesley!!

Great idea Melissa- Yesterday was a yucky weather day where we live, so I put a pork roast in the oven with a side dish of sauerkraut & diced apples. Thanks for the suggestion of rye bread, I think that was what we missed yesterday. I don't have time to make it today, but I pass a terrific bakery on my way home from work, so I'll pick up a loaf to add to the leftovers tonight.

I ask hard questions to make you think Mitch!!! I don't want you going soft on me! The baked apples gives me an idea too, I have a good many apples that are getting a little soft, I think I will bake them with some cinnamon and brown sugar as well...

Tom orrow we are having tater tot casserole.. The only reason I know that is cause the gal I work with picked that. We always cook on Tues night. Karen

It's leftovers. I try to make two dinners and a lunch out of each meal so I'm not always in the kitchen. Roast beef, white beans, sauteed cabbage, cole slaw, carrots in honey, and green beans. And bisquits. Bon Apetite!

Sauerkraut sounds so good but nobody around here but me eats it. I like it with Bratwurst. We are having Lima bean soup, cornbread and iced tea with chocolate pound cake for dessert. Blessings Peggy

I will have short ribs, slowly cooked in crock pot, stringbeans fresh, new potatoes, french bread, baked in my clay pottery,

We woke up to discover that our heat tape had failed and we had no water, so my whole meal plan changed abruptly. Simple supper for me tonight. Open a jar of canned beef and add it to noodles cooked in a jar of my canned broth......add a package of frozen mushrooms and peas and a little sour cream. Walla......one dish supper.

Let's see....spaghetti, peas and carrots, (out of salad fixin's), and homemade bread with garlic butter, I think. Brownies and ice cream for dessert, maybe?

It is SO COLD today-the wind is really sharp, though its sunny out. Since today is a strange schedule day-people coming in at different times, I just made a big pot of Chili, keep it simmering in the crock pot, and people can eat hot food when they come in.
