If Murray did that he would never be able to walk the streets of Sunderland in safety again!

Is anyone able to walk the streets of Sunderland in safety?

That's the 2nd time this rumour has surfaced on here. Which paper is this Stu? Personally I can't believe it. Can't believe that the Sunderland management would do such a terrible thing to their fans and I'm not sure we would want to shell out so much money for a player his age. It would make for a fascinating retraction of everything that has been said by both Geordies and Mackems about this player in the past! :-)

Bobby says it's B@llocks in the Sunday Sun.

That reminds me - a song we'll be singing at the next derby (2 alternatives. Tune "Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep" (Middle of the Road).

Where's yer Munchkin gone? .........Where's yer Munchkin gone?

Where's yer Munchkin gone? .........Where's yer Munchkin gone?

Where's yer Munchkin gone? .........Where's yer Munchkin gone?

Far, Far Away.

(Repeat)

Last night I heard my Munchkin singing this song.

Ooo-eee Chimpy Chimpy Cheap Cheap.

Woke up this morning and my Munchkin was gone.

Ooo-eee Chimpy Chimpy Cheap Cheap.

Chimpy Chimpy Cheap Cheap Yeah!

Where's yer ...etc.

Even better version for all (Including the Mackems) would be:

Where's yer Monkey Gone?

Just to get the ball rolling "Phillips for England". He impressed me last week, I said this to a mackem work collegue who answered "He's wasted in that side, he'll be away soon". 12m is not value for money and anyway who's got that kind of cash (Freddie could have a nasty accident falling out of bed with that kind of stash)

It was in The People Jonno. Front and back page headlines. The article goes on to say "Newcastle are desperate to sign another sttriker and are aware of Robbie Keane's frustration at Leeds". To be honest, I think Keane would be a better buy than Phillips, if for no other reason that he doesn't have "the previous" that would come with Munchkin.

Whatever rumours are flying about, there's no realistic possibility of anybody signing in time for Wednesday.

It's a lineup from current players that needs to be sorted before then, for the pool and arse games and even if he signed tomorrow, I wouldn't have thought the likes of Phillips would go far to solving that particular problem.

Don't think that position is very high on the priority list, now that Cort is somewhere near to being available to stand in for AS if necessary.

It's the Bellamy problem that needs to be solved so which of those players supposedly in the picture, could do that ?

I'd rather we bought Alan Smith than Robbie Keane. His suspensions would fit nicely around injuries until Al hangs up his boots, by that time he'd have learnt about controlled agression.

Keane is overrated, did well at Wolves & Cov but the big move went to his head.

At the risk of bringing the ceiling down on my head, and mindful of the building for the future comments, etc., I'd buy Dicannylad asap. If he'd been on our books on Saturday I would have felt okay about Bellamy being out for 5 or 6 weeks. Mind you, we might still have lost, but at least he wouldn't have wandered around looking clueles like Shola, of whom I am not, and never have been a fan. And we all recognise the need for depth, especially for Europe, so a couple of seasons out of Paulo, with all of his guile, while Chopra etc. come through would be ideal. I also think his passion matches ours. So why was YBR on the 9:30 am Saturday flight from Heathrow? Hopefully he's been having a chat with PDC. Then again........

I like that, Pilgrim :-)

And I can't see why the munchkin wouldn't move to us. Despite my heart raging against it, my head says he's actually a very good player. What would get Murray's head kicked in is to sell him before the end of the season. Come the summer, then who knows. If Phillips wants to stake his International credentials I think he'll struggle at the makems and will move on. However, he'll be 29 in July and £12m is a hell of a lot for an underachieving striker.

I don't think it's implausible for us to sign him - after all we did sell Cole to Man U. And that was a f**king strange decision at the time!

Tonight's Ronnie reports:

"......... I can reveal that Phillips' agent Jon Smith was at St James's Park last Sunday morning where he met United chairman Freddie Shepherd.

The pair were then seen to get into a taxi together and they headed for the Stadium of Light where United beat Sunderland 1-0. No details of what was discussed between Shepherd and Smith have been released.

But I would be surprised if Phillips was not mentioned. To be fair to Shepherd, he would not be doing his job if he did not keep tabs on the best players in the country - and Phillips certainly comes into this category.

Indeed all the talk at St James's Park last week was that, on the evidence of last Sunday's game, Phillips was the only Sunderland player who would get into the United team at the moment.

But yesterday's report that top- level talks have taken place at St James's Park regarding Phillips in the last 48 hours could not be wider of the mark for Shepherd left Tyneside on Thursday afternoon for a second trip to Australia on club business.

Obviously any talk about Phillips moving to United will have gone down like the proverbial lead balloon on Wearside, and Sunderland would fight off any approach from United in the way that Blackburn Rovers refused to sell Alan Shearer to Manchester United in 1996.

Phillips still has three years left on his contract but the saddest thing is that Sunderland will be virtually powerless to stop their best player from leaving".

Thank you Ronnie. Of course, what you fail to mention is who else Phillips' agent might happen to represent. You never know, it could be Farcelino and they were just tying up some loose ends. Crikey - flying pig-sh!t nearly hit me.

The Ronnie has never allowed the facts to get in the way of a good story Screach. Let's face it, how else could they set up the contradictory story in tomorrow's Journal, that will go something along the lines "......suggestions that Football Agent, John Smith, was discussing Kevin Phillips possible summer transfer to the Toon with United Chairman, FS, during a recent visit to SJP are well wide of the mark. His meeting with FS was - [choose one of the following statements]:

* ...purely social - he and Fred had a fleeting homosexual relationship when they both attended Bath Lane College of Further Education in the late '60's.

* ...specifically to discuss [fill in the blank] who Smith also represents.

Tossers?

Clarky - didn't you once say you were at Bath Lane College?

-- Anonymous, March 04, 2002

The thing about Phillips would be that it would take some time to warm to him as a player. It took me a significant period to forgive Big Al for setting up Graham Fenton's goals even though the rational part of me (yep, Screach, I do have one), knows that he was just being professional.
