How do you prepare rabbits for BARF?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Raising meat rabbits for profit : One Thread

My apologies if you've already covered this in detail, Tracy, but how do you kill the rabbits for BARF? And how did you develop your clientele? I think I'd rather kill the rabbits myself to assure their humane demise, and freeze them. What ages, sizes are wanted? Do you process newborns as well? Sandra

I have an amish neighbor do the butchering. He then skins them and guts them. I pick them up and immediatley package and freeze them. Most are proccessed at 5 lbs, 8-9 weeks. Unless someone orders a specific cut they are whole skinned rabbits including the heads. The organs a froze in a seperate freezer bag.I dont save the intestine or stomache. As far as finding a clientel, the wonderful world on the web. I have set up a basic web page as well as joining alot of BARF lists that allow advertising. The babies that dont make it I freeze and sell to people who own snakes. Again found those people on the web as well. I guess one of my strong points has always been marketing. I did it for so many years as a manager. If I can help let me know.
