Raging

Don't know why but I'm angrier tonight than I can remember for a good while.

We didn't lie down and die.

We weren't terrible.

But we definitely were outclassed. My reaction is probably due to raised expectations more than anything else.

Wish my boxing gym was open tonight. There's a punch bag going to suffer...:)

We're 2 points off the premiership leaders having played the same amount of games as them? What is there to be angry about?

We lost. Is there a better reason?

I'm not angry about today's result. Disappointed, yeah. But we did the best we could against a better side. Now we have a more realistic idea of where we stand, and how much more we need to do to improve. I'd suggest learning to defend set pieces is a good place to start! ;-)

Last nights match galvanised something I think I already knew. We are not quite up there with ManU, Arse and possibly Pool. Our squad cannot accommodate injuries to key players and perform. We can't replace a key player like Bellamy with a football genius like Bergkamp (unless, of course, we sign Litmanen). I'd love to say we are still in the race for the title, but doubts are creeping in.

Having slept on it I reckon if at the start of the season you'd have said we'd share the points with Arse over 2 games we'd have been happy.

1st half we were the better team. They were just better in the 2nd and took their chances - we had planty that might have gone in.

Josh - it's not a matter of sharing the points with @rse over a season. It's the disappointment of being so close but not quite able to cope with a couple of injuries. Well, one actually. JJ has made an admirable start to his season (tho won't be available next Saturday). But we lack speedy cover up front.

Does anyone really believe Bellamy would have made that much diference? I don't. We were beaten by a canny side and the severe sick feeling in my stomach is there because it's been so long since we lost I'd forgotten what it was like ;-(

After we win at Anfield we will all be delirious again.

not much you can do about the first goal [luck].

However, Dabs shouldve had Campbell for the 2nd.

A QUALITY centre half please Mr Robson!

I for one definately think Bellamy could have broke the deadlock earlier on, I can remember to excellent passes to Shola where if he'd been a bit quicker would have through on goal.

I think once they goal ahead, against the run of play, we looked dejected - else Arse got their tails up. It was always going to be difficult to get back into it because Arse are past masters, did you see how many times they kicked the ball away when we were about to take a throw or free kick.

The ref was another irratation, not that I blame him for the result, I just thought "how could he get it wrong so many times". He was particularly bad where Shearer was concerned, determined not to give him quarter.

Bellamy would certainly have disrupted the Arsenal back four's composure and might have made a difference.

Apart from 3 or 4 excellent crosses, I thought Robert was hopeless - I can't recall him beating Dixon on the outside once. As has been observed recently, we play with two wingers and yet have no width. We constantly tried to play straight through the middle where Grimandi and Viera were protecting the back four; we never got behind the Arsenal defence and attacked two aging FB's who could well have proven to be their Achilles Heel.

Most of what I wanted to say has already been said, including the comments on what I thought was one of the most staggeringly inept refereeing performances I've seen for quite a while - fortunately it didn't effect the result, although quite how Mr Barry missed Stepanov's obvious handball in the PA is only explicable by reference to his overall performance.

I've commented after our last two matches that I felt we looked a jaded team. Bellamy's "wear & tear" injury reinforced those concerns. Well, yesterday's performance provided further evidence for me of a team that is almost 'running on empty'. I thought Shearer and Speed in particular, and to a slightly lesser extent, Solano and Hughes, looked absolutely knackered during the 2nd half yesterday. While Jenas also looked very weary towards the end, that is probably simply down to him getting his PL 'legs', not to mention chasing Patrick Viera all over SJP. Very worrying, actually.

if we beat Pool on Wednesday it will be alright again, but with Shola and his flat feet is that really going to be possible?
