Does sharing nest?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Raising meat rabbits for profit : One Thread

Hi,

I'm new to rabbits and have a question. Two does (sisters never been seperated)had babies last night. They chose to share the nestbox instead of using the second one. I now have 16 babies in one nest box. Should I split these guys up into seperate cages, each with a nestbox and 8 babies or leave them together?

Thanks,

Kathie

Kathie, Definnatley split them. Make sure you take out fur to line the other box. Check the kits bellys to make sure they are nursing. The bellies should be nice and round. Good luck to you. Tracy

I would split them up. Leaving to many in a box together for 2 does to feed could cause mastitis for the does. And health problems for the kits. Over crowding. Rodger
