There were 13 original colonies in the U.S., who and when became the 14th?

A little confusion here..if you are speaking about pre-American revolution, the area considered to be the 14th Colony was Nova Scotia, Canada...not sure of the date here, guessing late 1600s...after the revolution, Vermont,in 1792 was the 14th state, although at the time, some folks still referred to the new states as "colonies".

Vermont is the answer I was looking for and this one I posted at 3:30 am due to lack of ability to sleep.

New question: More people suffer loss of life per year from falling _________ than from sharks?

Getting a good range of guesses here; I guess people just do not look up often enough to see these things just hanging around.~

I've had shark steaks too.~

That last hint was to let you know its something you eat.~

I know more are killed by falling vending machines than sharks (people try to rock them to get the goodies out).

I can accept the word vending if you have a streachable mode in your thoughts, but machine does not fit. That was a last week stumper. You all just put the clues together.~

Coconuts? Bananas? Grapefruit? Does it fall out of trees?

I am glad watermelons don't grow on trees! I am glad cows don't fly, too.

My first guess would have been falling rocks, but we don't eat those, except when I make bisquits.

Coconuts is correct, put a sprinkle of TLC in your buscits, or more bakeing powder.

"vending" coconuts??? WHAT KIND OF CLUE WAS THAT???????????????????????????????????????????????

-- Stan (sopal@net-port.com), March 02, 2002.

Stan, define the catagories my clues must fall within to be adequate to please you. I do not have your list of things I must do to please you; read me your rules, post them here so I can follow what you think is correct in that these forums only exist to please you.

just explain,, with SOME common sense, how "vending" relates to coconuts? Im curious where you have EVER seen a vending machine that has coconuts in it.

-- Stan (sopal@net-port.com), March 02, 2002.

That is funny Stan! I can just picture vending machines with coconuts for sale!!!

Ok here is the only link I can think of, "Mars bars" which contain coconut are sold in vending machines!!! I'm stretching here I know but it does work!

Stan, the quote was:

I can accept the word vending if you have a streachable mode in your thoughts, but machine does not fit. That was a last week stumper. You all just put the clues together.~

What part of "machine does not fit" do you not understand?

If a tree drops fruit so that people can get to it, is it not "vending", ie. making available for use, (def 2) selling or making available for use, what is the problem??????

"Vending", "if you have a streachable mode in your thoughts"

-- mitch hearn (moopups@citlink.net), March 02, 2002.

Very smart, connected thinking Mitch... I am amazed at how simple it is when you explain it. I could only come up with the candy bar thing!!!

-- Melissa in SE Ohio (me@home.net), March 02, 2002.

I will consider anything posted after this deletable material. Work it out elsewhere, if you want to continue to thrash it out!

-- Melissa in SE Ohio (me@home.net), March 02, 2002.

I just wanted to say that I got the vending clue. I do not eat from vending machines, but I do eat what God drops out of the trees. I've even teased squirrels to get them to throw nuts at me.

Mitch, I must confess, I make the best buttermilk bisquits in the world. My mother and my sister bake dinner rocks.
