Did I make the correct choice?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

Today I ordered a new M6 ttl .58 with 2.8 Elmar. I decided against the 7 because of only 2 mech.speeds and the fact that they cost £1900 body only plus there maybe teething troubles! Of course I also hear the horror stories about new M6's failing straight from the box, and I'm buying mail order! But the price was good and the're giving me a free leica flash. And of course I have longed for an M series since my first camera-a Zorki 4K 24 years ago!

Today I have come full circle.

How could you possibly be incorrect. You got your dream camera, enjoy!

my only quibble would be with the lens. assuming you are talking about the 50mm f.28 lens, is the compactness really worth the reduction in image quality and the delay associated with deploying the lens from its collapsed position. if you intend to acquire any longer lenses (75mm, 90mm) or a fast 50mm (the summilux), i would suggest buying the eyepiece magnifier. having a .58 plust the magnifier is a great way to have the best of both worlds. enjoy your fine new camera!!

hell yes! you got what you longed for! I wouldn't hesitate to buy a M7 though as I strongly suspect Leica got all the bugs out of this one, the simply cannot afford another M6TTL or R8 blunder. Perhaps that is partly why the launch was delayed about 9 months.

If you bought it under $2000 you got a fair deal, otherwise I would look elsewhere. I know the Leicas are expensive in teh UK, but that should stop you from buying one from HK or USA from an authorized dealer.

Most of all: enjoy that camera!

I've been using a Leitz M6 and Elmar-M 50mm 1:2.8 since last spring, and anyone that trys to tell you that this lens isn't sharp has a screw lose.

Oh Steve!

What have you done!? You will weep forever--with joy!

Steve, are you crazy? Throw 'em away... in this direction.

Bill, your comment is good but I still need new glasses.

don't look back, ever! learn to love what you have, not what you wish for, or wonder about. if you get good gear, or a good wife, or a good drink, learn to enjoy it. don't wonder if you made the right choice. do your own thing. happiness is inside you, not outside.
