M6 Rangefinder self-alignment

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

This has probably come up before, but I am new to this forum and wonder if anyone out there knows of an accurate description for aligning the M6 rangefinder oneself?

Thanks.

Unless your really proficient with mechanical stuff I wouldn't try it. (Although you can probably do the vertical adjustment yourself if you had the special tool) I once tried to adjust the release point on my M6 and wound up sending it into Gerry Smith because I suspected that the shutter slit widths were off.

Some things are best left to pros.

From an older posting:

If it is a trim of the infinity setting, it is very easy to do. Vertical alignment on the later cameras requires a an expensive special tool so I would send that in for adjustment.
