Looking for Alternative Energy/Building position in New England

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Hi we are a young couple who generally do wildlife and forestry work. We feel strongly rooted to Northern New England but most of our work takes us to the western US. We have been planning our off the grid farmstead for some time. We are interested in finding an "off homestead" small source of income rooted in sustainable building or alternative energy endeavors. This would allow us to continue learning as we generate more savings towards our plan. I have several years experience as a carpenter (both timber frame and conventional) and a wealth of personal knowledge related to alternative building practices. Does anyone have any leads that fit in these categories? I would be grateful for any information that you could provide me with. Thanks.

From the Piscataqua Watershed,

Jeff

Might check out ATTRA - Appropriate Technology Transfer for Rural Areas, ATTRA is a sustainable farming information center that provides resources on:sustainable agriculture, organic farming, alternative enterprises. They used to have a bulletin board of sorts or something similar in your area.

Found a link for ATTRA Farming Internships & Apprenticeships, http://www.attra.org/attra-rl/index.html while this is for AR you might still contact them and ask about the area you are interested in, as they have programs overseas, also.

Updated for 2002! For more than a decade, this one-of-a-kind resource has helped hundreds of family farms find interns and apprentices. The listing is free, and includes contact information and detailed descriptions of the farm, room and board arrangements, timeframes, etc. The list is updated at the beginning of each year. If you would like to list your farm in the next update, contact Katherine Adam at NCAT/ATTRA, P.O. Box 3657, Fayetteville, AR 72702, 800-346-9140 kadam@ncat.org
