M6 TTL market value to the test

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

I'm in no way associated with this auction per se, however, this is the first LNIB . 72 vf black M6 TTL (can be viewed as the 'standard' M6 TTL) that has been on eBay in several weeks, thus I think it will be an interesting indicator on the post-M7 market value for the M6 TTL. A couple of weeks ago, this one would probably be sold at at least $1,500.

wow, in my opinion, that one is worth at least $1,500. compared to some of the others i've seen on ebay (used and abused), that one seems like a winner.

Here in Switzerland new Leica M6 TTL are offered at an action price of 2'890 CHF, at an exchange rate of 1.7 CHF/USD this makes exactly 1'500 USD. This is from Leica dealers, with warranty. If I were in the market for a M6TTL I would chose that solution.

Anyone who sells their M6TTL today in anticipation of buying an M7 might be jumping the gun a little. Leica has a history of missing promised intro dates by a long time, supplies are usually tight in the first few months, and that first production batch is usually the one with more than its share of citrus.

You cross the border to France and a M6 TTL is sold for 19,190 francs which is around 2622 $. :(

The Economist have their famous Big Mac index to measure cost of living/prices in different countries, perhaps we should start a Leica index?! I think list price for a M6 TTL in the US is $1950 currently, apparently $2,000 in France, $1,500 in Switzerland - any other takers?

Cheers,

price in UK, or at least the cheapest I have seen new retail for is 1500 pounds, or 2120 US dollars. (VAT i.e value added tax here is 17.5% if you are a resident - what a rip off!)

well, that should have been $2,600 for France... My fingers are faster than my brain

-- Patrick (svenburg@yahoo.com), February 28, 2002.

Dear Patrick, It's not 2000$ but 2600$ here in France. 2000$ for an M6TTL can sound suspicious here. Salut.

How much for an M6-TTL in Euros?

-- Preston Merchant (merchant@speakeasy.org), February 28, 2002.

Oops! I misstyped. 2890 CHF / 1.7 CHF/USD = 1700 USD. Still a good deal in my opinion. For those who live in Europe In Euro: 2890 CHF / 1.476 CHF/EURO = 1958 EURO.

-- Sebastien Simon (sebastien.simon@alumni.ethz.ch), February 28, 2002.

Je t'en prie mon cher Patrick. 2600$ would be around 2900 euros.

-- Hem Gurung (hgurung@libertysurf.fr), February 28, 2002.

2442 Euros in Germany with 2 year guarantee. You get about 12% tax back at the border if you live outside EU. In Switzerland you get about 6% back. I think Switzerland is about the cheapest. You just have to be careful not to get stung at the border (particularly by French customs)if driving. Either leave the boxes behind or mail them seperately if you want them.

Eh Patrick, Hem,

Depuis que je lis différents forums, la France ne semble pas être le meilleur endroit pour faire des affaires en matière de prix Leica! Unfortunatelly, France is not the best place to have small prices for Leica equipement! My second body is not for tomarrow :-( Alain

I'm not going to get an M7 because I don't want one. But... if i did, I'd wait a year or two anyways until they got all the bugs out.

And I absolutely agree with you Mike. With my best regards, Alain
