Hotmail spamming

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

I can't find the thread about how to get rid of e mail junk mail but frankly, I've received four invitations today to look at "wet pussy" and, unless they have made a great cartoon of Sylvester after a rain shower, I can't imagine wanting to see what's on offer.

Did anyone know how to stop this stuff coming through?

Hotmail have an antispamming prefs, go to your account and change it to allow only known addresses

It's a serious problem Dougal. The Cat Preservation Society has gone a bit over the top during this recent spell of bad weather.

i got the typo version which was about a 'pet wussy'

Hotmails anti spam doesn't work...it blocks addresses and the people who send these things never just use one address or provider...

I think this was mentioned on the other thread, but don't 'reply/click here to be taken off mailing list', since most of the time that just puts your addy on more lists. Sneaky, tedious twats*.

*A bit like 'wet pussy' but more specialist. :@)

It also has a option which will only accept mail from people in your address book , so thats the one to go for

Any chance you could fwd them?

Hotmail is a disgrace for the amount of crap they send but I've recently had a problem with AOL. Not as much volume but still dodgy porno sites! Nothing you can do but delete them because even if you block the user name they send you stuff from a different address.

Junk mail box

-- Anonymous, February 27, 2002

I think I've mentioned this before, but Yahoo.com have a "bulk mail" system that seems to work pretty well in diverting spam to a dedicated folder that can simply be emptied without opening it.

Don't know how it operates, and I don't get too much traffic into this e-mail account, but this system seems to work OK.

Hotmail's junk mail box is OK but once the torrent starts it's not adequate to deal with the problem. I'm now at the stage where if I don't empty my junk mail box twice a week my account fills up and is disabled. Very very annoying.

Serves you dirty sods right. Too much left handed surfing me thinks. I've had a hotmail account for 3 years and never get any spam.

See Knick, even the spammers won't send you mail!!

My daughter has 2 hotmail accounts - one with her full name and correct age (10) - she gets no spam.

I set up one with a more anonymous name for registering on some kids sites. Put the age @ 21 - you should see the stuff she gets. Mail filter has been turned on.

My lad has one - all he gets is loads of mails offering him degrees - he's 9 and isn't too fussed. Slightly different mail senders each time.

They should be shot.

Not sure if it works on web-based accounts yet, but check out:

www.mailwasher.net

...as detailed on one of the previous tecchie threads.

Been using it for several weeks, and now preview all mail while it's still on the server...only allowing genuine stuff to reach my in-box. And it might not do any good - but I still get enormous satisfaction "bouncing" back the spam from whence it came.
