How to unscrew shutter speed button for Leica R5

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

My R5 got a loose contact on the shutter speed button and is behaving erratically (not showing shutter speed, or the lighted value is jumping around in the VF). If I press down hard on the shutter speed button then the problem seems to go away. I am guessing loose contact there. Does anyone knows how to unscrew it so that I can clean it? Is it a serviceable job by a novice? Any recommendation is appreciated. Thanks.

I would not recommend this work be left to a novice. You'll have to remove the camera's top cover to get under the shutter speed dial, and there are too many little parts and things that go "sproing". It's not that getting it apart is difficult, it's the re-assembly that will be done wrong.

Thanks. Yes I was wondering if I can get to it without opening up the top cover. Well, looks like a repair bill is coming this way :-)
