R3 & R4 electronics not workinggreenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread |
Hello ye all,Anyone have any ideas on why early R series Leicas may not work (Battery doesn't count). They work on mechanical setting - no visable signs of abuse. Water damage?

The meter cell went out on my R4. It cost me $300 at Leica in Northvale, NJ for a cla and repair. Came back beautiful and has worked great ever since for the last several years. I had traded some old Nikon lenses for the R4 with a 50 summicron so I wasn't too down about it since it got me into R Leica. I have been led to believe the electonics on these early R cameras had a few problems. Good luck.

The electronic stuff on early R3 & R4 production was notoriously bad.

That's why I got a good later model of the R4. :)

I think you need to call Uri Geller. I believe that for a small fee, he will, remotely, restore your electronics, make you a better person and might even be able to turn your R4 into an R8. Just watch out for a bent winding lever if he puts too much concentration into it. Sorry to take the p**s.

Well, as Alfie has pointed out.... the real burning question is why I don't own an R8. Just a couple more shoots and it's in the bank. ; 0)I have a late model R4 that works great, and my back-up R3 ('79) just fine. I have the opportunity to purchase a couple more (not working) bodies, but what's the point. Too expensive to fix, and time to get with the nineties. TTL spot pre-flash, what's that? thx
