I was recently given an "unrepairable" III-C with 35mm Elmar, took it almost completely apart, re-glued shutter curtains, removed corrosion and re-lubed, etc., and now, although still a bit rough, it works! With the seemingly countless hours this took, I can see how the expense, even in the capable hands of a competent repair person, could never justify making such a "repair." But now I'm obsessed, and if anyone reading this has a Leica that's been deemed "beyond repair" for whatever reason, send me an e-mail, tell me what you have, and maybe I'll make you an offer!
