I called Dish Network this morning. They have a plan called the Digital Home Plan. This includes a free installation, $49 activation fee, first 3 months of basic are free. America's Top 100 is what they call their basic plan. $36.99/month with 1 receiver and an additional $5/month for each additional receiver. The only major issue is no local programming.

I also called DirecTV this morning. They want $100 for the new receiver and an additional $5/month. I asked about buying my own receiver and they told me that I would have to purchase ($49) the existing receiver we have been using for the last 4 years before I was allowed to put another piece of equipment on the lines. They are concerned about mixed mode environments. BULLSHIT!!!

I submitted this message to the DISH network web site.

Please review your records regarding my account. I signed up for DISH network service and DISH network could not deliver what was promised (broadcast network programming). Because of this "bait and switch" attempt, I cancelled service after one day. All equipment was returned. I do not owe DISH network any money and will not pay DISH network any money. Please stop sending me bills and get that credit agency to stop bothering me or I will be forced into legal action.

Last night, I called DirecTV and initiated the process to get a refurbished receiver, for $10. It is being shipped and should arrive within 2 business days. The first receiver we have been using has broken buttons.

Dish Network called me at work this morning. They are offering two 301 basic receivers, the top 100, waive the activation fee, free installation. $41.99 / month with free 3 months.
