I liked this one.

'Tonight I'm going down the Quayside with Bellamy and Dyer.'

It was in George Caulkin's Times report. He also comments on 'the red-top interest in his players’ refuelling habits', implying in my mind that certain journos with persuasions to Liverpool and ManU have been deliberately making the most of the recent incidents. If that is the case, we should take it as a compliment as they must be running scared.

The full quote is in the Journal:

"The atmosphere in the dressing room was so lively I had to get out! I try not to get too morose when we lose, and try not to get too excited when we win. But it's a big victory for us and I might just be out on the Quayside with the rest of the lads tonight".

Great man.

seems to indicate that the Quayside incidents are a symptom of the fantastic team spirit being generated, rather than the inability to control unruly players ;-)

Red tops is nowt to do with 'Pool or Manure Pete. It's a journalistic term for those tabloids which have their names printed in a red box at the top of their front page (Sun, Mirror, Star) as opposed to the other tabloids like the Express and Mail which occasionally print items of news in their pages.
