People who say 'United' when they mean Man U

Robson continued to talk around Newcastle’s emergence as genuine candidates for the title — “I can’t see United losing between now and the end of the season, but our next couple of games will say a lot about ourselves”, he said

It's one of these new boots - the sort that Becks endorses.

One passage that sums it up from the Times:

Reid’s belief that his players deserved a point was debatable, in spite of Given’s heroics. The intelligence of Newcastle’s possession was on a different level to Sunderland and their passing was crisper.

Just heard a bit of the interview on the radio. Bobby said Man United, typical journos!

It's very rare that U hear MUFC referred to as Manchester. U lot are ALWAYS known as Newcastle or Newcastle United. Same for Leeds and West ham. Leeds United / Leeds, West Ham / West Ham United. It makes sense either way. Apart from Brooking and Terry V. I have never heard Manchester United simply called Manchester. Geddit?

LR, where've you been?

I left cyber world for a while. Football chat was doing my head in. And anyway...my team needed me so I had to focus on Manchester :) U lot are starting to feckin' worry me now.....STOP IT!!

You were roaring with laughter at the thought of our being pacesetters who forgot the stop running a few weeks ago :0)

I was roaring too...I remember. Not because I thought you lot couldn't do it...but rather at the oddity of a pacesetter forgetting to pull over and the others giving it "ay up lad.....wht the feck's he doing"....title won.

Still on the point mind......how many times are NUFC referred to as New U?...or do we ever hear Leeds U or West U?...

A Man U fan :-)

LR, that's because there is no Newcastle CITY, ROVERS, etc to confuse the issue. If there was no Man City, then Man U would be often just called Manchester. Funnily enough, they are always called Manchester over here in France, even when Man City were in the PL.

I don't see it that way. The issue with you lot is that MUFC are always called United by just about everyone. But we are either called by our full name or just United. You lot on th eother hand can be called by your full name or either of the names that make up NUFC. It's pedantic bollx by NUFC fans, WHU fans, Leeds United fans and anyone else who cares to whinge about it. FFS...even yer own players and manager AND fans have used United to describe MUFC. Fact.

BTW...who cares what the Frogs say :-)
