Nikon Flash for N6006

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Camera Equipment : One Thread

Hi,

I have a Nikon N6006 Camera that I need to get a flash for...

I have looked at the Sb23, 2b24, sb26, SB27, and the newer 50dx.

I realize that my camera is over 10yrs. old, and I don't want to necessarily purchase a flash that costs more than the camera itself.

However, though my budget is limited and I am fairly new at this, I am very serious about it. 95% of my photos are portrait type. I am now experimenting in group shots as well I would like a flash that will give me all of the options and features I need to take great flash photos, but also does not "bill me" for features that my camera can't even take advantage of.

I want to be logical in my purchase of a flash for my beloved but somewhat antiquated N6006.

Please help.

Thanks.

N6006 has very complete flash control compared with many higher models including N90s and F100, but at the same time it lacks some of the functions including autozoom and redeye reduction. To pay least still for complete functions and controls, you need a flash 1) TTL and Nikon autofocus dedicated, 2) ISO setting on flash, 3)flash output compensation on camera body, 3) manual zoom only, 4) redeye control on flash.

Possible considerations 1) Vivitar 730AF, 2)Achiever 630AF & 260AF, 3) Sunpack PZ4000AF.

Hope it helps.

As you said, your camera is over 10yrs old. You might want to consider a modern flash that will take advantage of any newer body you may intend to buy in the near future. Buying to match your current needs is logical but would become expensive if your N6006 were to die tommorrow or you decided to upgrade to a higher end model - then you'd end up buying another new flash to match the new body or be frustrated by having a flash that is not as capable as the body demanded.
