Changing mirrors, focusing screens

Focusing screens, all mirrors and glass in EOS 1 cameras - can they all be replaced/renewed? Is it expensive - and would it make any image improvements? Thanks for your comments out there!

Hi John!

Yes, it can all be replaced but will not be very cheap. The focusing screen can be replaced by yourself as you already know. Everything else has to be replaced by Canon Service and they will charge you a lot for this. Is any of the items you want to change broken than you have to get a new part, if it's just dirty try to clean it gently if possible. You will not get any image improvments because all the parts you mention are used for directing the light of the lens to the viewfinder. Gives you a nicer and more clear picture in the viewfinder but not on film.

hi there,

as far as picture is concerned, mirrors and focussing screens doesn't matter much. but i wonder whether focussing depends on the light reflected by the mirror. in that case, of course the final picture would not be well focussed.

Hi there, Thanks for the response to my thread. One point that does pose a question is that above the focusing screen (when the camera is upright) there is ( I think it's called)the Superimpose screen (or is it the Condenser lens - in the EOS 1). When I had the focusing screen out, I did gently brush and blow this SI screen(?) a little. Would this make any poorer light reflection and therefore poorer focusing accuracy - good point made by Sajeev! Thanks for your opinions.
