Lumpy M4-2 shutter?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

I sent my M4-2 to Sherry today, but discovered something I'd not seen before.

The first curtain of the shutter (the one you see when its wound) is all sort of lumpy. Examination with a loupe reveals lumps in the rubber. There is some slight mildew on the shutter, but... it looks very new, and not very extensive. I'm wondering if what I'm seeing is mildew that has seperated the rubber from the cloth or .. what?

I'm also wondering what a new curtain is gonna cost... this could be a real OUCH!.

Curtains are relatively cheap in the Leica realm. Sherry quoted me $50 something for one curtain (M4), I can't find the e-mail print at this moment; $175 labor, $50 something parts (all screws, light sealing materials, some other stuff). So $275-300 total, includes a full CLA.

I can live with that
