R 35 Elmarit lens query

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

Does anyone have any experience with the quality of the different versions of the Elmarit-R 35 lens? In particular I am wondering what, if any, are the differences between the lenses which take the Series 7 filters and the ones which take the E55 filters.

It covers much the same ground.

Hi Christopher:

I have discovered the R35mm/F2 last year. I bought a battered item with which half of the journalistic events of the world were most probably covered. Although ugly, it was a very potent lens. 55mm filter thread as you know. This is a good diameter to find various filters not expensive. The same diameter as the 50mm and the 90mm for example. Very handy.

Recently, I bought "old" but correct 35mm/F2 as a part exchange transaction. Same built quality, same neat crystal pictures.

What I like in this lens is the ease of focus and the minimum distance for focus which is 30cm (12 inches). It's amazing. With Leica, the 35mm had always been a flagship, it's well assembled and don't be rebuked by some paint missing. As long as the thing is not scratched in it's heart....

Some nice deals on Ebay too. Good luck.
