Cort in the act

Now that Carl is on the verge of a first team comeback, what will he add to the squad? With Shearer and Bellamy playing so well it would seem initially that he wouldn't get much of a look in. However, think about our run in and the difficulty we sometimes have against the more defensive sides where our pace isn't such an issue, Cort could be a very useful player. He's proven that he has the ability to score - I would say a better finisher than Bellamy. He's also more of a physical presence, and better in a busy penalty area than Bellamy.

It also gives us the option of playing three up when required, and because of his strength, finishing and pace could become a key player with him alongside Shearer and using Bellamy in a free role behind them. Problem is Robson would problem dream up a 3-5-2 from this trying to use wingbacks.

Can't see him in the same side as Shearer and Bellers. Good man to have on the bench mind, which is where I think he'll be come Sunday.

Andy ,agree with you, that`s the way to go for the run-in/or until Dyer is fit. Majority here feel McClen is not up to it, Acuna is a headless one, I like the idea of Cort/Shearer up front , with Bellamy behind making runs and closing down space and ensuring its harder for him to stray offside, go for it Bobby

danger is it puts Bellamy back into a similar position to that at Coventry

Buff according to CB thats his best position , i cant wait to have cort and al up front CB and KD running at the defence its frightening.

Shearer will pick up a yellow on Sunday and we'll need Carl

Pete, thought Cov played hime wide left?

I think they did too Buff, hence why I was careful to say 'similar position'. Obviously playing devil's advocate a little....;-)

Kenny your comment on CB and KD was the exact reason I mentioned about Bobby thinking of a 3-5-2. Otherwise who will he drop? Robert and Solano are not wing backs and yet in a 4-4-2 CB and KD will just argue over who will be the man to stay back. Mouthwatering prospect for a midfield though, LR, CB, KD, NS. It's just not viable though. And then you have Jenas to introduce.

Thing about Cort is that he isn't a game changer so he wouldn't be that useful a sub unless it was to cover an injury. He reminds me of Shola in that respect. Without ever looking like he means to score, he actually does score quite a lot so I can just about see Bobby picking him ahead of Bellamy although the brief glimpses of the Shearer-Cort thing looked fairly uninspiring last season..

I thought Bellamy said recently that he used to be unsure of his position but now he is certain it is a striker, nothing else. (?)

Cort is a very useful player, unspectacular first touch, but once he has the ball he is no slouch and can finish a lot better than Bellamy. He is pacey which is the main thing for me, as anyone who came in for Bellamy (perhaps because of suspension) would need to be quick for it to work.

On the bench; deputy for AS; allows him a gradual re-introduction.

We need to start using Shearer more sparingly: get him off on 70 mins when we're ahead, and get CC on against tiring defenders. If we're not ahead, bring CC on and play them both up front, supported by CB, LR, and hopefully KD - mouthwatering prospect.

We could do with something like that against Liverpool

They will have Gerrard out injured I think, so we will need to attack them - their midfield merges with the defence a lot of the time and we will need all we have to break them down. Surely Dyer, Solano, Bellamy, Robert, Shearer and Cort backed up by Speed making runs and Hughes on the wing would be able to break down any defence?
