To those of you in or near Austin, Texas:

The 2002 Distinguished Lecturer Series of the Visual Communications Program of the School of Journalism at the University of Texas at Austin will open tonight with Lucian Perkins at 7pm in the CMA Auditorium. Admission is free.

Perkins has been a staff photographer for the Washington Post for 22 years and has received two Pullitzer Prizes.

Other lecturers include Dan Budnick on March 7, Danny Turner on March 21, Raymond Meeks on April 11, and Deborah Luster on April 25.

The real star of the series is David Duncan Douglas, whose archive now resides at UT's Harry Ransom Center. He will inaugurate the HRC's Photojournalism Lectureship on April 9 at 7 pm in the Bass Auditorium.

It's free! so mark this one on your calendars and make the drive (or flight) to Austin. It will be well worth it, and while you're here you can check out the world-class photography collection (fifth largest archive in the world) at the Ransom Center. Although the HRC building is currently under renovation, there is a great exhibit underway at the LBJ Library on campus. It includes the world's first-known photograph.

Hope to see you here!

Luke
