EOS3 - metering & self timer

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon EOS FAQ forum : One Thread

Hi

A question regarding when exposure is *locked* using the self-timer function on an EOS3. My objective is to mount the camera on a tripod and use a reflector to help light my subject. Since i have no assistant to hold the reflector, my aim is to set the timer for say 10secs, lock the focus, fully depress the shutter button and then run to hold the reflector in position.

If exposure is locked when the shutter button is fully depressed then obviously my exposure would be out because of the added light. if exposure is locked at the end of the 10 sec interval (ie when the shutter is actually tripped) then i should be ok ?

hope this makes sense.

Why don't you just test this before your shoot? Or remove all doubt by finding the exposure you want and using manual mode - no chance of an automatic change in exposure while you wait.

Derick

He wants the exposure to change at the end of timer interval when the camera actually takes the photograph. Then only the additional light that he provide using his reflector will come into effect. He doesn't want it to be locked while he add the light. I think this cannot be achieved in M mode without some one's help to hold the reflector. Even I have this doubt.

how far is your subject from the camera. i guess its not too far. then in that case you can use a remote cable release. i don't know whether it has any wireless remote. but the remote wire can be extended by some means so that you can press the shutter button while holding the reflextors. this will ofcourse take care of the exposure at the time of reflector light.
